I've been playing guitar for about a year and a half now. For roughly the first year I had a guitar teacher who taught me a lot of the basics, the pentatonic scales, the blues notes, some open string scales and chords etc. But for the past half year I've been at university and so I haven't had any lessons wince I've moved away.
It went alright at first, but now I just feel like I'm not making any progress. I've been sporadically working on the same few songs for ages without really fully focusing on a single one. I can't seem to play the scales any faster than I could before, and when I do try and play fast it sounds very disjointed. My improvisation sounds very stale and aimless and it's basically just the pentatonic scale patterns recycled over and over again. My understanding of music theory hasn't improved at all and I find it really hard to motivate myself to continue playing sometimes because I get so frustrated at myself.
I'm just wondering what advice anyone has for me, and whether or not this is completely normal?
