Joe Satriani Announces New Album, 'Shapeshifting'

Joe Satriani Announces New Album, 'Shapeshifting'

Joe Satriani is back.

Today, the legendary guitarist announced his new solo album, Shapeshifting. Set for an April 10 release via Sony/Legacy, it was produced by Satriani and Jim Scott, who has worked with the Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.

You can hear the album's decidedly Eddie Van Halen-influenced first single, "Nineteen Eighty," below.

Shapeshifting's name came from Satriani's response to hearing the initial demos of the album. “I started to think that that sounds like 15 different guitar players,” Satriani said. “I know it’s the same guy, because it’s me, but it sounds like I’m really moving into an area where each melody requires me to almost be somebody else.”

Satriani is joined on the album by drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Fogerty), bassist Chris Chaney (Jane’s Addiction) and keyboardist Eric Caudieux, with additional contributions from Lisa Coleman (The Revolution) and Christopher Guest.

You can preorder Shapeshifting right here, and check out its album art and tracklist below.
