Hendrix chord.

Hi all, recently I’ve been trying to learn Pearl Jam’s “Yellow Ledbetter.” Although I have had some success with the Hendrix/Frusciante style chords in the past the 7#9 chord on the intro is giving me trouble. When I try to hammer on/pull off the high e string I almost invariable end up slightly muting the high e with my pointer finger. The only way I’ve been able to get it is abandoning the thumb wrap around and playing the chord “open” with my wrist very perpendicular to the neck of my guitar.

Does anyone have tips to avoid this muting phenomena? Think lowering that strings action may help or is that not the best idea?

Thank you for the input.

Edit: chord name.
