Somebody Get Me A Doctor Guitar Lesson – Van Halen

To download the TAB referred to in the solo section of the video lesson, click here

In this Somebody Get Me A Doctor Guitar Lesson video, I will show you how to play this great classic from Van Halen II.

The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb.

The song starts with a great riff by Eddie. It is not incredibly hard to play but is a lot of fun. This riff is also used during the chorus.

The verse uses some pretty interesting chords along with a cool half-harmonic pedal underneath. I will explain that in the lesson. 🙂

The bridge is definitely the hardest riff of the song. It not only uses some pretty fast strumming, but also requires you to do some volumes swells with your volume knob as well. You can make those volume swells a bit easier using a volume pedal, but Eddie used the volume knob on his guitar.

I will also take you through Eddie's solo note-for-note. Quick note about the solo. The second lick that I teach in the video lesson, is actually performed by Eddie in the 6th position. It will be the exact same notes, just in a different area of the fretboard. I have included a TAB here of that very lick properly notated in the correct position.

Have fun with yet another classic from Eddie and the gang! Carl...
