Warmup tip!

It seems that the most common warmup is either chromatic, or some sort of spider exercise. I get that they are beneficial to some degree. However, I think that there’s more musical ways to get this type of warmup in!

One scale I like is whole half, or half whole diminished scale. Doing 4 notes per string gives you that stretch. You can shift this so the whole note stretch falls between different fingers.

You can explore other scales doing four notes per string. You’ll find that these stretches occur naturally in most scales and you don’t need to create a non musical sounding scale to get a warmup in. Meanwhile you are becoming more familiar with a scale, or fainting a new perspective on a scale you already know.
