I just got a guitar last month but I am struggling with my first 2 chords

I am trying to learn a and d cord on my acoustic guitar but I am struggling. I don’t know if it is the guitar but the thinnest string is buzzing and doesn’t sound right. I sometimes block the vibration with my other finger or I may not be pressing hard enough. How long does it usually take to get good with a few chords because I feel like I’m taking a long time.
