There She Goes Guitar Lesson – The La’s

In this There She Goes guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by The La's in its entirety.

The intro guitar riff to "There She Goes" is instantly recognizable. This riff can be a bit challenging, but I will work you through all the fingerings and picking to make it as easy to understand as possible.

After covering the main guitar riff and it's variations that are played throughout the song, I will then show you the underlying chord progressions. These chord progression use simple open chord shapes, however, they can move by at a pretty quick pace making this song a great challenge for upper beginner level players.

This is a really fun song to play and will instantly put a smile on your face. I hope you enjoy the lesson! Carl...

Love Me Do Guitar Lesson – The Beatles

In this Love Me Do guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play the chords to The Beatles' very first hit single.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

"Love Me Do" is a great song for anyone to learn, but especially for beginner players. It uses just three simple chords for the entire song.

As an added bonus, I will give a detailed explanation of how I teach new players to learn strumming patterns. The key here is to not overthink it and just try to feel the rhythm pattern intuitively. You need to keep your strumming arm continuously moving down and up since that is what is keeping the time.

From there, just listen to the pattern as if someone is clapping it out in front of you. You will now play that pattern while keeping the constant up down movement of the strumming arm. For some of the strums, you will intentionally miss the strings, for some you will hit them and some of the hits will be accented. The idea is to let the pattern happen naturally within that down up motion and just focus on matching the sound of the pattern and not the downstrokes and upstrokes. The correct pattern will develop naturally without you having to think about it very much. This is how more advanced players do it and learning to strum this way from the beginning will speed up the process for you immensely!

Have fun learning this classic song by The Beatles! Carl...

Hear About It Later Guitar Lesson – Van Halen

In this Hear About It Later guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song off of Van Halen's Fair Warning album in it's entirety.

The tuning is drop Db tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Db Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or, if your tuner displays sharps instead of flats, those notes will read like C# G# C# F# A# D#.

There are a lot of great things to learn in this one. The intro is so fun to play but quite challenging with some very large fret-hand stretches. I will also speak briefly about the guitar tone used which uses a clean tone along with a flanger, delay and reverb.

From there, I will take you through each riff in the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

I will also tackle Eddie's insane guitar solo note-for-note. This solo contains a lot of classic Eddie licks and is a great study in his guitar style.

For the outro section, which contains many guitars overdubbed on the original recording, I have instead opted to demonstrate what Eddie played live. I have referenced the 1981 performance video of Hear About It Later at the Oakland Coliseum which is easily viewable on YouTube.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this Van Halen classic. R.I.P. Eddie! The world just isn't the same without you in it. 🙁

In this Last Train Home guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the guitar chords and solos for this smash hit by John Mayer.

The tuning is standard tuning E A D G B E.

"Last Train Home" is mostly a synth driven track. However, John Mayer matches the synth chords by playing simple triad shapes on the guitar.

I will cover each chord progression in the order that each appears throughout the song.

Along the way, I will also cover every guitar fill that John plays over the various chord progressions. I will then show you how to play the main solo note-for-note.

There are some great blues licks within all of these lead guitar parts in "Last Train Home" and they are really fun to play once you get them under your fingers.

Madhouse Guitar Lesson – Anthrax

In this Madhouse guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this awesome 80's metal masterpiece from Anthrax note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are some challenging riffs in this one. The tempo is quite fast and you will find the riffs incorporate fast shifting, string skipping, trills and legato licks throughout the song. "Madhouse" is certainly a great metal rhythm guitar workout by Scott Ian and Dan Spitz.

I will also cover Dan's solo note-for-note. Once again we have quite a challenge here with everything from fast alternate picking licks to awkward string skipping.

Have fun learning this thrash metal classic! Carl...
