The Spirit Of Radio Guitar Lesson – Rush

In this guitar lesson video for "The Spirit Of Radio", I will show you how to play the classic prog rock masterpiece by Rush note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

We have a lot to cover in this one. From the opening repeated guitar lick that is instantly recognizable and every musical curveball they throw at us after that, "The Spirit Of Radio" covers a lot of musical ground within its 5 minute running time.

I will go through each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

Have fun with this one! Carl...

Who’s Crying Now Guitar Solo Lesson – Journey

In this video, I will show you how to play Neal Schon's fantastic guitar solo for Journey's smash hit "Who's Crying Now".

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

As we all know, Neal Schon is a master of creating instantly recognizable guitar melodies while infusing them with some devilishly difficult shred guitar licks. There is literally no one better at it.

But for his solo in "Who's Crying Now", Neal dials back the shred and keeps it quite simple and musical throughout. It isn't easy to play by any stretch of the imagination due to all the precise bending required. But, it is probably one of Neal's most accessible solos.

I will take you through each part of the solo phrase-by-phrase after the opening performance at the beginning of the video lesson.

Have fun learning this truly masterful solo by the incredible Neal Schon! Carl...

Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo Guitar Lesson – Rick Derringer

In this Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the rhythm guitar parts for this classic rock hit by the great Rick Derringer.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are some absolutely killer guitar riffs in this one. Some of these riffs can be quite challenging to play up to speed. You might see Rick play this live and see him play the riffs a bit different at times from what I am teaching in the video lesson. Rick tended simplify some of the more challenging riffs when playing live since he had to focus on singing as well. But in this lesson video, we will cover the guitar parts as they were played on the original recording.

When we get to the guitar solo section, I will show the rhythm guitar parts (which are great), and also discuss what scale is being used for the solo so that you can come up with your own solo. Check out my Blues Rock Bootcamp course to fully understand how to accomplish that in just 8 weeks!

Have fun with this one and R.I.P. rick Derringer! Carl...
