In this Blackbird guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this epic power ballad by Alter Bridge note-for-note.
The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. Or, if your tuner displays sharps for the chromatic notes, those notes will be D# G# C# F# A# D#.
There is so much to cover in this very challenging song. Hence the lesson video being over an hour and twenty-three minutes long. Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy truly bring the goods on this one so I thought a proper note-for-note analysis was appropriate.
We will start the lesson with Mark's instantly recognizable finger-style intro and progress through the entire song covering each section as each appears on the original recording.
Along the way, we will cover the rhythm parts for both Mark and Myles. I will also demonstrate the fills that are played by Myles throughout the song.
Of course, the real star of the show here is the solo section. The first solo, played by Myles Kennedy, is very melodic and full of emotion perfectly fitting the song's meaning.
Then, Mark enters with his much more fiery yet still very melodic solo. Both solos will be covered phrase-by-phrase so that you can more easily memorize each.
Have fun learning this monster! Carl...
