She’s Gone Guitar Lesson – Steelheart

In this guitar lesson video for "She's Gone", I will show you how to play this great ballad by Steelheart note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

This excellent power ballad has some great guitar work by Chris Risola, to compliment those otherworldly vocals! There are three great guitar solos in this one and I will cover each one note for note-for-note.

I will also be showing you how to play a guitar transcription of the piano parts along with all of the rhythm guitar parts. The rhythm guitar work is quite simple, and my arrangement of the piano part is very playable as well.

As for the solos, Chris threw some stuff in there that is pretty tricky to play to go along with some great melodies. There are some difficult bending parts and awkward tapping licks, along with a bit of sweep picking. I will break each solo down phrase-by-phrase to make it as easy to learn as possible.

Have fun with this one! Carl...

Always Somewhere Guitar Lesson – Scorpions

In this guitar lesson tutorial for "Always Somewhere", I will show you how to play this excellent ballad by the Scorpions note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are just a couple of rhythm guitar parts to learn for this one, but plenty of guitar solo work to keep us busy.

I will be covering all of the rhythm work and each of the solos in-depth.

The intro and outro solos are performed by Matthias Jabs. Lovedrive was the first album to include Matthias Jabs on lead guitar.

The two other solos are much longer and more challenging and are played by Rudolf Schenker. Rudolf has always had a knack for creating memorable solos in ballads by the Scorpions.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this classic! R.I.P. Francis Buchholz! Carl...

Fraggle Rock Theme Song Guitar Lesson (Down in Fraggle Rock)

In this guitar lesson video for the Fraggle Rock theme song, I will show you how to play my arrangement of this classic theme song note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

Written by Philip Balsam (music) and Dennis Lee (lyrics), The Fraggle Rock theme song was one of my favorites as a kid. This lesson is a bit nostalgic for me because of that. It also makes for an excellent quick and fun guitar piece to play.

I will tackle each section of the song in order. There is an absolutely classic guitar riff in this one. Instantly recognizable!

For the vocal sections, I have created a simple chord/melody arrangement so that this piece can be played as a solo guitar arrangement.

Have fun learning this classic! Carl...

Chords and Lead Over a Two Chord Blues – Podcast 133

In this lesson you’ll learn how to play chord embellishments and a lead over a two chord blues. You’ll hear this type of progression used by many artists such as SRV, the Allman Brothers, Clapton, Robert Cray, and many more. This track was inspired by the tune “The One in the Middle” by Robert Cray but is not really a lesson on his style. You will hear him use some of this style though in that track.

When You Love a Woman Guitar Lesson – Journey

In this guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play "When You Love a Woman" by Journey in its entirety, including Neal Schon's killer guitar solo!

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

I will cover each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording. Most of the rhythm guitar work will just be covering the overall harmony being played on the piano and string section. Most of the actual rhythm guitar work is found in the chorus, which I will cover as well.

The song is in Db major. You would think that Neal would choose to tune his guitar down a half-step since most guitar players aren't very comfortable playing in Db. But, that didn't scare Neal, as he chose to keep his guitar in standard tuning on the original album recording. So that is how we will play it as well.

Of course, the main part of this lesson video will be demonstrating Neal's guitar solo in full. This is yet another great one from him demonstrating his amazing melodic sense and his shredding skills as well.

Have fun with this one! Carl...
