Fender Debuts New Stratocaster 1 Guitar

Fender Debuts New Stratocaster 1 Guitar

Fender has teamed up with renowned high-performance automaker Saleen to create the Stratocaster 1 guitar.

Based on the 2020 Saleen 1 sports car, the Stratocaster 1 features a carbon fiber back and sides, in reference to the Saleen 1's carbon fiber body. It has a 3/4-inch thick hand-carved maple top finished in Candy Apple Red, with the finish applied using the same five-step process Saleen uses to paint its own cars.

The first release in Fender's Prestige Collection, the Stratocaster 1 was masterminded by Principal Master Builder Ron Thorn. You can watch him describe the guitar, and its fascinating build process, in the video above.

The Stratocaster 1 is also built with a quartersawn roasted maple neck and three-ply carbon fiber fretboard and headcap. The neck, pickup, bridge and tailpiece are also mounted to a roasted alder center core.

Other unique features of this stunning guitar include a “tinted glass window” cover for the pickup, and the fact that there are no volume and tone knobs on the body. Instead, concerned that the knobs would “break up the lines," Thorn moved the controls to a pedalboard.

The price and release date of the Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster 1 have yet to be revealed.
