Line 6 has announced that it is recalling its Relay G10 digital wireless guitar systems and USB charging cables due to fire and injury hazards.
According to a statement from Yamaha, Line 6's parent company, the wireless system's lithium-ion battery can overheat and the battery cover can "separate with force," posing fire and injury hazards.
Yamaha said it was aware of four incidents worldwide of the battery cover separating forcefully from the transmitter, including one report of minor property damage. Thankfully, no injuries from the incidents have been reported.
About 82,000 units - in addition to around 4,700 units sold in Canada - are being recalled in total. The recall involves the Line 6 Relay G10, G10S (G10SR) and G10T systems. There have been no incidences of overheating in the company’s wireless-enabled amplifiers themselves.
Yamaha said that customers should immediately stop using the products, and are encouraging owners to go to www.line6.com/g10recall for information on how to download a firmware update for the G10 systems that will eliminate the overheating issue.
Yamaha is also encouraging consumers to cut their charging cable, take a picture of the cut charging cable and send the picture to Yamaha, who will then provide a refund.
