Like many of us, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram is living and working responsibly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The hard-working bluesman is sheltering at home, which is where he made this new acoustic version of his song “Hard Times,” which he’s dubbed “Hard Times (Shelter-at-Home Mix).”
“These are unprecedented times we’re living in,” Kingfish tells Guitar Player. “Also, for many, they are truly indeed ‘Hard Times.’ A great deal of the world has had their lives and daily routines upended, so I wanted to do something as an ’I see and feel you’ to them.
“This was a song that Tom Hambridge and Richard Fleming co-wrote, and that I recorded for my debut album. It’s a real blues track that I think is timely and speaks volumes.
“My manager and I were talking a week ago and - considering that, like many, we are also sheltered-at-home - I just wanted to do something stripped down, unfiltered and honest... from home.
“I really appreciate the people who were willing to take time to share their at home photos and videos with me as well. Their openness during a tough period made this video really special for me and gives me hope that we’ll all get through this together.”
The 21-year-old blues prodigy had a spectacular 2019. His debut album, Kingfish, was released on Alligator Records and received a nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
He had undertaken his first tour in January 2020 and had dates scheduled through the year, but cut the tour short in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic.
