How do I read notes on the rest of the neck?

I know how to read notes on the first 3 frets plus open strings, but there are notes all over the neck which can be read too. My question is are they divided into sections like first section is first 4 frets plus open notes and then maybe frets 4-8, 8-11 or something like that?
