Can you effectively play a modern day acoustic guitar piece on a 1600's era-style baroque guitar?

And can it be done the other way around? A baroque guitar piece on a modern day acoustic guitar? Or is it only possible to play a modern day acoustic guitar piece on a baroque guitar due to a lack of strings if the other way around?

Baroque has 9 strings while the modern day one has 6
