What are some tools guitarists utilize?

So right now I'm studying the pentatonics and triads+1st and 2nd inversions. Past this I'll be learning the actual major scale and transposing that into other modes.

All of these things I can see the practicality for use in rhythm and lead, but what other tools are there to learn that can be applied?
