Aerials Guitar Lesson – System Of A Down

In this Aerials guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all of the guitar parts for this massive hit by System Of A Down.

The tuning is drop C tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, C G C F A D.

Then clean arpeggiated picking sequences heard throughout "Aerials" are definitely the most challenging sections of the song. Guitarist Daron Malakian takes great advantage of the drop C tuning to create a flowing arpeggio sequence with a droning effect along with the melody being handled by a moving bass line. This creates a very haunting quality to these sections.

I will talk about a couple of different ways that you can pick these arpeggios to make them as easy as possible. However, to get it up to album tempo can be a challenge for even experienced players. It is lots of fun to play though, and a great technique workout.

The rest of the riffs in "Aerials" are a lot easier to play and I will take you through each one of them in the order that each of them appears on the original recording.

Have fun learning this great song from System Of A Down! Carl...
