In this Duality guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this killer track from Slipknot note-for-note.
The tuning is drop B tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, you will tune your guitar down to B F# B E G# C#.
There are some absolutely killer riffs in this one. It is a scorching metal guitar workout that seems to never let up yet remains highly musical and melodic at the same time.
I will take you through each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.
While we work our way through the various riffs, I will let you know which part is being played by either Mick Thompson or Jim Root.
Some of the most difficult sections of the song are the verses. This is when both Jim Root and Mick Thomson are playing rapid fire tremolo picking while the melodic lines they are playing in the fret-hand are jumping all over the fretboard very quickly. As I mention in the video lesson, it is best to first learn the melodies they are playing and the timing of the notes. After that, you can just set your picking hand on autopilot with the tremolo picking while following along with the melody notes.
I hope you guys enjoy learning this absolutely killer song from Slipknot. It can be a challenge to get all of the riffs down, but once you do, it is a lot of fun to play! Carl...
