I'm a relatively intermediate player now aiming to genuinely improve my theory knowledge and get better as opposed to my playing in the past which has mostly been about having a bit of fun and learning songs.
I've been following some progression guide videos on YouTube and determined the sort of level I'm at - I'm very comfortable with barre chords for example. But I'm definitely more knowledgeable when it comes to lead than rhythm. I know all 5 pentatonic shapes to a good standard and can do a decent improv over a backing track, but now what I want to progress to is where I can make my own backing tracks without much thought on my looper.
Now, with that context, here's the root of my question, Based on these videos, high level players always put a huge deal of importance on learning triad shapes across the fretboard, which is what I'm aiming to achieve, but I'm just wondering what about triads are so crucial, I can play barre chords rooted on E and A so that covers most chords that I need - so why are triads so special?
I think knowing why better players than myself love triads so much will help me to learn it, because I know exactly how it's gonna improve my playing.
