BB King Inspired Slow Blues – Podcast 126

In this lesson you’ll learn a 24 Bar Slow Blues Solo and rhythm that contains more chords in the progression than your standard 12 bar blues. This gives you a more melodic sound and has a bit of a BB King feel to it.

No More Mr. Nice Guy Guitar Lesson – Alice Cooper

In this guitar lesson video for No More Mr. Nice Guy, I will show you how to play this rock classic by Alice Cooper note-for-note.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

I will cover each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

There is a lot of guitar work going on here with many of the sections of the song containing three guitar parts working together to create a cohesive and more layered sound. I will demonstrate each of those guitar parts in detail throughout each section.

If you are not part of a three guitar group, don't worry, the song is still highly doable with only two guitars and even just one guitar player can play the main part of each section and still make it sound like a convincing version of the song.

Have fun with this classic! Carl...

Fat Bottomed Girls Guitar Lesson – Queen

In this Fat Bottomed Girls guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this hit song by Queen off of their Jazz album note-for-note.

The tuning is dropped "D" tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.

The chord progressions that Brian May plays in "Fat Bottomed Girls" are quite simple yet he adds so many licks and fills all over the place it can make it difficult to play everything note-for-note like he does on the original recording. But, that is what I am going to try and help you do in this lesson.

I will cover each section in the order that each appears on the original recording and will painstakingly detail all the little fills and chord variations for each section.

After you get everything under your fingers, it is a fun song to play.

Take it one section at a time and have fun! Carl...

High Enough Guitar Lesson – Damn Yankees

In this High Enough guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this great song by the Damn Yankees note-for-note.

The tuning is E standard tuning, E A D G B E.

"High Enough" begins with a beautiful chord progression on acoustic guitar. I will be teaching this on electric guitar just to make it easy for filming since the rest of the song uses electric guitar predominantly. This chord progression for the verse has some very nice and slightly challenging chord voicings that will be well worth the effort put in to learn them.

From there the electric guitar enters for the pre-chorus and chorus sections. These rhythm parts are a bit easier to play than the acoustic ones. I will cover each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

Starting in the bridge we begin to have lead guitar work from Ted Nugent. I will demonstrate both the chords and Ted's lead in the bridge that then launches into his amazing guitar solo.

I will then cover Ted's wah drenched solo phrase-by-phrase to make it as easy as possible to get under your fingers quickly. This solo was a particular favorite of mine back in the early nineties. It is a very dramatic solo that fits the song perfectly.

I will then close out the lesson video with the remaining chord progressions that close out the song.

I hope you guys enjoy learning this killer power ballad from the Damn Yankees! Carl...

Bad Company Guitar Lesson – Bad Company

In this Bad company guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this rock classic it its entirety.

The tuning is Eb standard tuning. That is, starting with the 6th string, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. I mention in the lesson video that you can see old live footage of guitarist Mick Ralphs performing "Bad Company" in standard tuning when performing live. I am not sure why he is doing that since the guitar is very obviously in Eb standard tuning on the original recording to match the piano riff that is in Eb minor. In any case, I have chosen Eb standard for this lesson because that also allows us to play an arrangement of that instantly recognizable piano riff along with all of the guitar parts as they are heard on the original recording.

I will cover each section of the song starting with the piano intro and verse.

From there we will cover all of the guitar parts for the chorus sections and Mick Ralphs' great guitar solo. I will only be covering the main guitar solo, not the overdubs heard throughout the intro and verse sections or the outro solo. However, I will briefly talk about how to use what you learned in the main guitar solo to create your own improvisations over the outro solo section.

Have fun learning this rock classic! Carl...
