how in the hell do you play a bar chord?

first attempt, none of the strings sound out at all. all dead.

okay so...more pressure. more pressure results in getting the 5 and 6 chords to ring out, but...putting so much pressure on it means the bottom of my index finger is now elevated, lifting it off the 3, 2, and 1 strings, so they’re all dead.

i tried my middle finger, and had to roll it over on the side, which kind of worked, but i know that wouldn’t be viable since i’ll need that one to finger other chords.

so like....???
