Hey all, I bought a guitar in quarantine and have been teaching myself to play. I’ve learned a few chords but was curious. What resources do y’all use to learn things beyond chords? Things like strumming techniques and such. My goal with playing guitar is just playing songs that I like. No real interest in learning to read music, things like that. Thanks!
I just started playing guitar and im trying to learn on yt but i cant even advance bc i when i try to play an acorde when i hold down a string w my left hand and play the same string with my pick on my other hand it is muted and dosent make noise help please🙏🏼
Hi fellow guitarists friends,
Everyone knows that tabs are not the best way to learn guitar. It might be the easiest and fastest way to learn a song but not the best way. For instance learning by ears and trying to figure it out by yourself is probably much better.
Since few months I'm thinking of creating a guitar method based only on audio (like Pimsleur for those who are familiar with this langage learning method). You would listen to audio lessons everyday (30mins), the teacher will play licks or chords progressions, gives instructions and the listener would have to replicate what was play immediatly. A PDF/book will be given to the student so he will be able to see tabs and have a visual recap of the lesson just after he completed the audio lesson.
I believe this could be a very effective way to train the hear and improve one's ability to play the guitar more efficiently and fluently.
What do you guys think of it ? Would you like to learn that way ?
I've not heard of such a method, but if you know one let me know :)
Thank you very much !
Why do i really need to learn scales? How do i even know which scales i should learn in order if i’m looking to play metal? Additionally, how do i know if i’ve truly learned a scale?
I would realy like to learn more on fingerstyle guitar. Any suggestions of course and things that I should learn to get good/better player of fingerstyle? And when I have made progress I would also like to start arranging songs myself, I would also like some course on that too. Thanks!
The past week and a half I’ve focused on learning the first 3 positions of minor pentatonic scale. Got them down pretty solid. Today I tried my first attempt at playing with a backing track. What a feeling! Let me say I’ve only been playing guitar 6 months with a big break in the middle, so I’m new. Playing along with a backing track and going through the scale, really really helped me bring it together. Just going up a low E string playing each note, moving around. It felt awesome. Now my question.
Is there a trick to learn the gaps between notes on a line? For example on my low E, in An scale, I know the notes are on 5-8-10-12. Is there a key or phrase to think about for each string or is it all memory? So if I play a different scale, I know the fret spacing as opposed to 5-8-10-12?
Sorry if this is confusing. I’m sure it’s probably just something that comes with more practice and that’s cool if it is. I just want to be sure I’m teaching myself the correct way. Thanks
My friend is a beginner player and is looking to buy a guitar kit. They want to know if it’s any good, because 300$ is their budget and they want a kit and not an individual guitar. Also neither me nor my friend are tech savvy
