Hello everyone! We hope everyone is doing well during these times.
We have recently received a lot of suggestions and feedback about this subreddit. We have heard all of it, and we have very seriously considered each and every piece of feedback. What we have gathered is that the majority of users would prefer that we have less simple questions about gear and guitars in general, and less performance videos. However, we did not want to completely eliminate these, so we have come up with a solution.
Megathreads!
What we plan to do is utilize a megathread. The megathread will be a Gear and Beginner questions thread. There, all discussion about gear, such as guitars, amps, etc will be allowed, as well as questions that would typically not be, such as questions like "What do the knobs on my guitar do?" We plan to have a new thread on the first of each month. The first one will likely be published May 1.
The gear/questions megathread will be archived in the Wiki each month for easy access.
Rule changes:
With the addition of these megathreads, some rule changes will follow. We will obviously be banning all "beginner questions" and gear related posts and instead direct them to the megathread. We will be much stricter on this than we have been the past few months.
We have also received a lot of feedback regarding performance posts, so as of this announcement we will be restricting these. We will still allow feedback requests, however they must be worded specifically as such. We will not allow posts such as "Look where I am after a month of practice." However, and appropriate post would be "Recently learned this song, how can I give the notes a clearer and more fluid sound?"
The mod team is still finalizing some specifics about these changes, but we believe it will overall improve the quality of the subreddit.
One last note, feedback on the sub is always appreciated, as long as it is respectful. If you attack the mod team, your feedback will likely not be valued as highly, and it may result in a punishment for you, such as a ban. We hope this is not an issue again. Please share any feedback you may have on these changes either via comments on this post or via modmail.
We hope r/GuitarLessons can continue to be a valuable resource to all, especially during these uncertain times. Thank you for reading this, and stay safe and healthy!
