I’m Not In Love Guitar Lesson – 10cc

In this I'm Not In Love guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play all the guitar chords to this smash hit by 10cc.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

Some of the chord changes can be challenging using the original fingerings and chord voicings. In those cases, I will give you a different way that you can play the same chords so it can be easier to play, but still sound great.

I will cover each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.

Have fun with this one! Carl...

Sharing my experience: 'One string method' fast tracked me with guitar

I got super discouraged with guitar lessons, this lesson from my friend really helped me out a lot with playing the guitar, and I wanted to share it. I had him make a video it was so beneficial. My friend called it the "One String Method." He's going to do a few more videos on it. I hope this helps someone as much as it did me. If anyone has any questions on this feel free to ask!

Help with tone!

I have spent hours and hours trying to recreate this tone. I’m using free trials of neural and bias fx 2 and have had zero luck and I’m about ready to smash something 😁

Can someone point me in the right direction in terms of effects, can or amp choice? Time stamp is around 0:50.

A little guidance?

Im obviously no expert in any way, but I understand the basics of music theory. I know the notes, intervals, what scales are, how chords are built off of them, root notes, circle of fifths... I’m sure when I get deeper into music theory that I’ll be pretty confused. But I honestly I don’t feel confused by theory so far.

What confuses me is extrapolating that knowledge onto the fretboard and actually using it. How does one know all the chords, scales etc in a given key, without having to think about? How do you effectively practice to get to that point? To move across the neck with ease and switch between different chords, voicing, melody lines, keys?

Say someone calls out key of G. Do you just memorize all the chords in the key, their degree, the g major scale across the neck until it’s second nature? And then you know what to do without having to sit and calculate things out in your head? And then do that over again with every key?? How can anyone remember all of that?? Am I missing something?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I’m just feeling a little lost and discouraged.

You’re In Love Guitar Lesson – Ratt

In this You're In Love guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this 80's hard rock classic from Ratt note-for-note.

The tuning is dropped 'D' tuning. That is, starting from the 6th string, D A D G B E.

This song is just so much fun to play. Guitarists Robbin Crosby and Warren DeMartini could write some absolutely killers riffs. And let us not forget, Stephen Pearcy is also one of the key guitar riff writers in Ratt, outside of his amazing vocal chops.

I will cover each section of "You're In Love" in the order that each appears on the original recording. The rhythm guitar parts for both guitarists are pretty similar for most of the song.

I will also show you how to play Warren Demartini's killer main guitar solo note-for-note. Warren's style is very challenging to play, but a lot of fun as well, once you get everything under your fingers.

I hope you guys enjoy learning yet another rifftastic offering from Ratt! Carl...

How do I reduce the squeak when playing on my accoustic guitar?

Whenever i record myself playing I hear squeaking between my chord changes. Some days it really stands out, others it is practically non existent. Is it because i need to change my strings? I notice it a lot in the latest snippet i just recorded and coincidentally the strings should be changed soon, so? Either way is something that has haunted my playing for a long time and i cant seem to shake it! Any tips would be appreciated

American Girl Guitar Lesson – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

In this American Girl guitar lesson video, I will show you how to play this massive hit from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in its entirety.

The tuning is standard tuning, E A D G B E.

There are quite a bit of things going on during this song. Guitarist Mike Campbell and Tom Petty combine to create a very full sound, while playing pretty simplistic guitar parts.

For most of the rhythm guitar work, I will be covering what Tom Petty plays on the recording instead of going over all of Mike Campbell's fills that he uses throughout the song.

After getting through all of the rhythm guitar sections, I will then tackle Mike Campbell's awesome guitar solo. He begins with a very simple melodic idea that he repeats. But after that, he launches into a very challenging hybrid picked legato sequence. In the video lesson, I will demonstrate how to practice that lick so that you can get it up to speed quickly.

Have fun learning this classic hit from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers! Carl...
