Holding guitar

So when I hold the guitar I have watched videos on how to do it correctly but it seems like my strumming hand is always uncomfortable. Like the way I have to reach around the body. Is that something you just get used to? I feel like it keeps me from being able to keep my hand against the guitar while I pick the strings.

What’s the proper way to hold a guitar pick?

I’m a newbie and am learning how to hold a guitar pick. Am I holding it the right way? with the pointed part of the pick facing the guitar? I’m also trying to learn strumming with a pick. It seems that the sound of pick is really loud when I try to play guitar with a pick. Is that normal?

a question for guitarists who are above 60.

I have a question for guitarists who are above 60 years old. I am curious to know what happen to us as we get older as a guitarist. How does the aging brain affect your guitar performance in any way, in terms of memory, eye problems, fingering, etc.?

What are the things you can do when you were young but not anymore? Can we keep improving our guitar performance regardless of our age. Thank you.

How do I strum notes like this

How do I strum notes like this

I've been playing guitar for a while and I've come across whatever this is called in a couple songs I tried to learn. I can't find anything on the internet explaining it, most likely because I don't know what it's called. How am I supposed to keep the other 4 strings muted while playing 2 notes at the same time, that aren't on strings adjacent to each other?

Hurting my thumb while practicing?

I feel like I must be doing something wrong - my left hand (the one that navigates the fretboard) is positioned with my thumb on the neck, basically on the round part in the center. I feel like this is the only way for me to move my hand accurately around on the fretboard, and by putting pressure against my thumb, it seems like the only way for me to form a barre chord - making sort of a pinching between my thumb and index laying flat.

The downside to this is that my thumb hurts pretty bad after playing too many barre chords. Is this something I have to strengthen up to? Am I doing something horribly wrong? When I look at others playing, they seem to have their thumb up over the top of the fretboard, but I get no leverage this way and its very hard to wrap my hand around the guitar to form any chords.

I've only been playing for a short time so its totally possible I'm just doing something way wrong, in which case, how can I really learn the correct technique?

How are which notes are on which strings in a scale determined?

Hi all; I was learning a D pentatonic minor and when looking at the scale pattern a question rose in my head, and a google search failed to find the answer. Let us use the D minor in a vertical pattern starting from the 3rd and ending on the 13th, which would be, from low E to high E:

Low E: G/A/C // A: D/F // D: G/A/C // G: D (?) // B: F/G/A // E: C/D/F

Low E: 3/5/8 // A: 5/8 // D: 5/7/10 // G: 7 (why not F on 10?) // B: 6/8/10 // E: 8/10/13

My question is in regards to the D on the G string, why not play the F on the G string also instead of just the D? So G: D/F // B: G/A. I noticed if playing just up and down the scale between the 3rd and 7th the G once again only has a single note, C. Why is this and how is it determined?

Thanks for your time.

idk if someone could demonstrate it to me in a slower way via video or some other way of explaining
